ITF-14 generator

Qreska does not issue EAN numbers

GTIN/EAN numbers are issued by GS1 (in Poland: GS1 Polska). Qreska only draws the code from a number you already have.

What is ITF-14

ITF-14 marks outer cases, e.g. a carton of 12 units. It holds a GTIN-14, whose first digit (the indicator, usually 1 to 8) tells apart different packs of the same product.

The code is usually printed directly on corrugated board, so it has wide bars and a thick frame. The frame evens out printing plate pressure and prevents reading only part of the code.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get a GTIN-14 for a carton?

It is built from the GTIN of the product and an indicator digit following GS1 rules, or allocated from the company number range. Numbers are issued by GS1 (in Poland: GS1 Polska). Qreska does not issue numbers; it only draws the code.

Is the frame mandatory?

For printing directly on board, GS1 recommends a full frame. On smooth labels you can turn it off or keep it; it does not affect reading.

Which size should I choose?

GS1 allows a module X from 0.495 to 1.016 mm and a bar height of at least 32 mm. The generator defaults to X = 1.016 mm, which gives a code about 15 cm wide with the frame.

How is ITF-14 different from EAN-13?

EAN-13 is on a single product scanned at the till. ITF-14 is on an outer case scanned in the warehouse and does not go to retail sale.

Can I enter an EAN-13 number?

Yes, if you add the indicator digit in front. From 13 digits the generator calculates the check digit, but you must choose the indicator and number following GS1 rules.
