How the QR code generator works
A QR code is a square matrix holding anywhere from a dozen characters to a few thousand. A phone reads it with the camera and acts on it straight away: opens a page, joins a Wi-Fi network or creates a contact. No app is needed, because the reader is built into the camera on both Android and iOS.
Each content type has its own storage format and its own page with a form. Picking the right type matters: a phone number saved as plain text is only displayed, while the same number saved as tel: opens the dialler. Every code is generated in the browser, so its content never reaches our server.
