GS1-128 generator

A barcode with GS1 data: GTIN, batch, expiry date, weight or SSCC. Used on logistics labels.

Qreska does not issue EAN numbers

GTIN/EAN numbers are issued by GS1 (in Poland: GS1 Polska). Qreska only draws the code from a number you already have.

Code settings

Enter the data as (AI)value, e.g. (01)05901234123457(17)261231(10)ABC123.

The narrowest bar of the code. Recommended 0.495 to 1.016 mm.

From 3 to 300 mm.

Blank margin around the code required by the standard. Keep it on.

Appearance

The human readable digits or characters, set in OCR-B.

Height of a digit, from 1 to 30 mm.

Hexadecimal, for example #000000.

Fills the quiet zone too.

Preview

Size with quiet zone: 141.57 × 35.7 mm. The on-screen preview is enlarged.

Download the code

PNG file: 1716 × 433 px, 307.9 DPI. Each module gets whole pixels and the DPI is set so the printout has exactly the size in mm shown above.

What is GS1-128

GS1-128 is Code 128 with data written using GS1 application identifiers (AI). Each part starts with an identifier in brackets, e.g. (01) is the GTIN, (10) the batch, (17) the expiry date, (21) the serial number, (00) the SSCC of a pallet.

The generator checks the length and format of every value, GTIN and SSCC check digits and dates. The FNC1 character at the start and between variable-length fields is added automatically.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write an expiry date?

As YYMMDD after identifier (17), e.g. (17)261231 is 31 December 2026. If you only know the month, enter 00 as the day.

Does the order of fields matter?

A scanner reads any order. GS1 recommends putting fixed-length fields such as (01) and (17) first and variable-length fields such as (10) and (21) last, because the code is then shorter.

How much data fits in one code?

At most 48 data characters including identifiers. If there is more, a logistics label carries two codes one above the other.

Which size should I use on a logistics label?

For logistics labels GS1 requires a module X from 0.495 to 1.016 mm and a bar height of at least 32 mm. The generator defaults to the smallest allowed module.

Can I use any identifier?

The generator supports the most common identifiers, including 00, 01, 02, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 21, 30, 3100–3105, 37, 400, 410, 414 and 91–99. Others are reported as not supported.
