Data Matrix generator
A small two-dimensional code for parts, electronics and packaging. It stores text on a very small area.

What is Data Matrix
Data Matrix stores data in a square or rectangular grid of modules with a typical L-shaped border. It holds a lot of data on a small area, so it marks parts, circuit boards and small packages.
The code has built-in error correction, so it reads even when partly damaged. It needs a quiet zone one module wide.
Frequently asked questions
How is Data Matrix different from a QR code?
Both are 2D codes. Data Matrix is smaller for the same amount of data and copes better with very small sizes, so it dominates in industry. QR is better known to users and more common in marketing.
Can a phone read Data Matrix?
Yes, most barcode apps read Data Matrix, though not every built-in camera.
When should I choose the rectangular version?
When the code must fit a narrow strip, e.g. the edge of a package or a cable. A rectangular symbol holds less data.
Which module size should I choose?
It depends on the printer and reader. On labels, typically 0.25 to 1 mm. A smaller module gives a smaller code but needs better printing.
What is GS1 DataMatrix?
It is Data Matrix with data written using GS1 application identifiers, e.g. GTIN, batch and expiry date. It has its own generator.
