What is Contact card QR code
vCard is the standard electronic business card, understood by address books on Android and iOS and by Outlook and Gmail. Stored in a QR code it adds a full set of contact details in one scan, with no number copied off a paper card.
We use version 3.0, because practically every app reads it, older ones included. Accented characters are stored as UTF-8. Remember that the more fields you fill, the denser the code: a card with a full address and two numbers needs a larger print than a name and a phone number.
Frequently asked questions
Will the phone save the contact by itself?
Not without your say-so. After scanning, the phone shows the details and asks whether to save. Only then does the contact reach the address book.
Why vCard 3.0 rather than 4.0?
Every common app reads 3.0, including older Android address books. Version 4.0 is newer and tidier but is sometimes rejected by older readers, and a card printed on paper is not the place to take that risk.
Will accented characters be stored correctly?
Yes. The content is stored as UTF-8 and phone readers interpret it that way, so an accented surname survives intact.
My code came out very dense. What can I do?
Fill in fewer fields or increase the module width X. The full address and a second phone number cost the most. For a card printed small, a name, company, phone and email are usually enough.
Can I add a photo to the card?
Not in a QR code. vCard allows a photo, but it would run to thousands of bytes and the code would neither fit nor scan. A photo is added after the contact is saved.
