What is Phone number QR code
A phone number QR code stores the number in the tel: format, which a phone understands as an instruction to call. Scanning brings up the dialler with the number filled in, ready to confirm.
It suits a business card, a service van, a sign by a lift or a letting advert. Storing the number as plain text would behave differently: it would only be displayed, with no one-tap call.
Frequently asked questions
Will the phone dial automatically?
No. The number appears in the dialler and placing the call needs confirmation. That is a system safeguard a QR code cannot bypass.
Should I include the country code?
We recommend it, so +48 for Poland. A number without one works only when the caller is in the same country on a domestic network.
Can I type the number with spaces?
Yes, type it however suits you. Spaces, dashes and brackets are stripped before the number goes into the code, leaving the plus and the digits.
Do short codes and helplines work?
Short numbers and helplines work the same, as long as they have at least four digits. Extensions after a comma or a star are not supported in this format.
How is this different from a contact card code?
This code holds only the number and does one thing: place a call. A vCard stores a full set of contact details and can be saved to the address book. vCard is coming in a later stage.
